Enjoying the Mango Season with Alphonso Mangoes...

Mango is the king of fruits and Alphonso (a) Hapus is the best type of mango. Anyone tasting these delicious mangoes will vouch for that.Alphonso mangoes are bred in Maharashtra and are world famous. I love the saffron (kesari) colour and the unique smell of these mangoes which seem to invite a person to eat them. Perhaps thats why I eat only Hapus mangoes and not any other variety. I am often teased at for this, but my loyalty towards hapus mangoes is still going on strong. The lazy person that I am, I prefer to simply cut the mango and eat the slices. But, if someone takes the time to make aamras (mango pulp), then I will be the first to attack it. A combination of rotis/puris with aamras is excellent. For the past few years I missed out on eating Alphonso mangoes due to non-availability in the south, but now all supermarkets down south are stocking this variety thanks to hot competition amongst them. So, this summer was spent eating delicious hapus mangoes and going back down memory lane. Ok folks, see you all in the next post, the mangoes in the fridge are waiting to be attacked by me.
